Our question for this school year is "What is our Why?" Answering this question helps explain how learning is approached at Spokane Valley High.
Traditional schools don’t have as much freedom, choice and independence compared to what SVH teachers provide. Freedom prepares us (the students) for the real world challenges and struggles we will face after high school. Also, freedom teaches us the responsibilities adults should have to function in the workplace. Given choices, we learn how to work together to solve problems and act professionally and independently. Our work in teams and as individuals to complete class projects will lead to greater success at meeting the demands of college. Although we're given some freedom and choice, we are also taught ways to manage our time and complete tasks according to deadlines. Check lists and rubrics are frequently used to help us stay focused on priorities.
In this way, we can safely learn from mistakes that would be costly if discovered later in life. SVH prepares us for adulthood so we can be more productive citizens in today's society.
