The Overall Excellence Award recognizes schools in the state who are among the top 5% of schools based on the Composite Achievement Index rating. The rating is based on proficiency and growth, graduation and dual credit for students graduating students and for proficiency and growth for schools not graduating students.
The State Board of Education Revised 2016 Achievement Index is based on statewide assessment data for the three previous years. Each award has individual business rules, but all schools are required to have at least 95% participation on state tests.
The award celebrates schools for: 1) Overall Excellence, 2) High Progress, 3) Reading Growth, 4) Math Growth, 5) Extended Graduation Rate (only awarded to high and comprehensive schools), 6) English Language Acquisition, 7) Closing the Achievement Gap.
